Avoca is situated in a picturesque valley stretching back to the Meeting of the Waters which is two miles away. The poet Thomas Moore immortalised this meeting point. Here on a rustic seat, formed from the root of a tree, Moore is said to have written the words of the famous Irish song, the Meeting of the Waters.
