At the western end of Killarney National Park, you will find warm Irish hospitality, great food, comfortable rooms, a lovely lounge with fire and magnificent views.
A warm welcome awaits your arrival at Glencar House Hotel, which has a spectacular setting in the foothills of Carrauntuohil, Ireland’s highest mountain. Ideal for fishing and walking, Glencar House Hotel is a perfect retreat in a peaceful landscape.
The hotel was built by the Earl of Lansdowne and is Ireland’s oldest great fishing house (since 1670) and oozes Celtic mysticism.
Glencar House has fine views over the surrounding hills and there is cosy public bar and a five course traditional meal is served in the dining room, overlooking the oak woods.
The Upper Caragh catchment is a richly diverse fishery, from the classic salmon pools to mountain streams and loughs all with good numbers of salmon and trout. It is famed as a spring fishery but a large number of grilse runs from 1 March to 30 June.
Daily permits are available before and after these dates. All pools have easily accessible banks and good fly fishing water and disabled access is possible on some beats.
